Every "best Discord bots" list includes the same 5 bots and reads like it was written in 2022. Most authors haven't actually used what they recommend.

Best for: Servers on a strict zero budget that need leveling and basic moderation. The interface is dated and setup is command-heavy, but you can't beat the price.

Utility bots handle the operational features that keep your server running smoothly.

What it does: Reaction roles (its flagship), detailed audit logging, auto-mod, custom commands via tags, embeds, starboard.

Why it's here: Carl-bot's reaction roles are the most configurable available — normal, unique, binding, and reversed modes. The audit logging captures everything from message edits to voice channel moves with full before/after text.

Best for: Anime servers, general hangout servers, any community that enjoys collecting mechanics.

Why it's here: Dank Memer has the most developed economy system of any Discord bot. Jobs, investments, pet adventures, multiplayer heists — it's practically a game inside Discord. The meme commands (image manipulation, random memes) add casual entertainment value.

Don't add all 12. Here are my recommended setups by server type:

Small community server (under 500 members):
